DESPISE - DEMO'93 "STATE OF BRUTALITY |
Collection of material written ever since the band's inception in '86. Regarding this, it may be obvious that they're pretty much at the root all along the line. Quoting the bio, one has drawn its influences from US type Thrash .However, since rhythmics & vox usage in the speedy cuts are strongly redolent of Slayer's ''Reign in Blood" era, I think Death Thrash is the magic word here. Other half of the 4-songer enrolls a more tempered, spicy upbeat approach of the Thrash genre. The combination of grippy rhythmics, speed and catchiness provides quick access, as well as it comes up to the impact of it all. complimented by the mobility drumming feature that is essential when it comes down to tightness & diversity.Overall, this is one fine Thrash tape.

DESPISE - "State Of Brutality" demo '92 (Greece) |
Nothing is more fascinating than when a thing turns out to be something you didn't expect it to be...........And so much better!!! This is NOT Greek Black Metal....(!) This is Thrash! Inspire by SLAYER (No not this mag, you twit!) and some other Bay area bands like FORBIDDEN. This Greek outfit performs aggro Thrash in the finest manner. At least I got a kick out of this.... I want an album!!!

Well, jump back to Europe or more precise to Greece. Except the fine black metal bands we can also meet the ones who still believe in their thrash metal, DESPISE is the name of such band, demo'93 "State of Brutality" blindly follows everything SLAYER did between 1984 and 1986, i.e. fast and aggressive thrash metal. Me, I like this style, sometimes you can even think it's SLAYER'S unreleased tunes (maybe except drummer) but they are nothing more than a copy band. Good or bad -you must decide.

A four-piece band from Greece, and 'State Of Brutality' is the last release from this band.Four Thrash metal songs in a good production and also a good sound of course. As for the music, this band reminds me a lot on Slayer, and I think there's a big Slayer-influence here, that's the reason why I like this tape. But nevertheless the band shows also a lot of own potential, and they have it of course!!! All in all I would say that this Techno-Thrash band showes us really fresh and good music.

Production of this tape is really excellent, but the resemblance with Slayer is overwhelming.Still the musicians know how to play, so fans of speed/thrash can get this tape.Band is now working on a CD.

Indisputable Slayer and Co. influences on the demo ''State of Brutality'' from the Greek thrashers Despise,98 Kountouriotou st.,Galatsi 111-46,Athens,Greece.Nice tape, but it contains old tracks, but they told me about a full-album.
