A new demo from the Greek Thrash metal band DESPISE much influenced by SLAYER but they have created a personal sound. It comes with a professional lay-out, colour cover, photos & lyrics. It's highly recommended to all Thrash fans.

| DESPISE 'State of Brutality' (GRE-93) 4 songs |
DESPISE is a very old underground band because they were formed in late 86 in Athens. They released their debut demo only in 93 and they are still promoting this demo, that's why we are speaking of so old a demo. The tape is totally pro-duplicated and the cover includes colour pictures and pictures and lyrics of the songs.DESPISE really sound like the last SLAYER.Very fast rhythm, with killing solos and vocals in the veins of Araya. For fans of SLAYER, it's perfect because first: the tape is really well-produced; 2ndly if you close your eyes you could imagine you listening to some rare tracks of 'South of Heaven', and finally the female bass player, Maria, is really pretty.A good demo for this trio but lacking of originality.

Now a rather cool Greek band called DESPISE who play SLAYER inspired thrash, in fact their stuff wouldn't go a miss on a SLAYER album.

| DESPISE-State of Brutality |
Seeing as the four songs make up this cassette were assembled in 1986-1991, recorded in '92 and released in '93, State of Brutality's dated sound is somewhat excusable.Drawing on the basic thrash formula (interesting rhythms, assorted solos, raw vocals, etc.), this Grecian trio have been solid since 1989 and consist of guitarist vocalist Makis Dedes, bassist Maria Vassilakis and drummer Johnny.Out of four, I'd have to deem the Sacred Reich-paced 'Mindless Warrior' best, but I equally enjoyed 'Flower of Death', 'Cruel Mission' and the title track, despite the test of time. While the band plans a full-length release this year, fans of good old reliable thrash action may want to check into this pro-packaged tape before then.

A 3-piece consisting of a female bass player.First thing that comes to my mind is DARK ANGEL with Paul DiAnno vocals. This is well-played techno-thrash.Other bands come in mind like HOLY TERROR and VIOLENCE for the styles. This demo is still very entertaining despite its age. They keep you guessing with a barrage of tempos, intricate passages and cool drumming techniques.
